Can you explain? What is the Bonsai and why is the Bonsai so small?

Hello, everyone.
Do you remember the contents on 4th Apr. when we had special guests who were Cat's family? We were asked what Bonsai is and why Bonsai is so small by Cat's papa. But nobody could answer the question clearly then. So MaCCi taught the answer to me from dictionary of Japanese culture. I'll report that on this blog. Read and study the explanation please.

みなさん、こんにちは。
4th Apr.2016　のレッスンの時、Catのパパの疑問にはっきりと答えられる人はいませんでしたね。なんとなく説明は出来たけど。盆栽が日本固有のものなのか、中国から伝来したものかも、参加者の知識もバラバラでした。そこで今回のブログは盆栽について後から調べたことをまとめてみました。

What is "Bon-sai(盆栽)"? :==This meaning of Kanji(漢字) is "盆= tray; "栽= plant". 
Bonsai is the traditional art of growing miniature plants and trees in a small container for viewing. The common bonsai trees are pine, cedar, maple and palm. They are stopped from growing bigger by regularly pruning the roots and branches. Some branches are tied and trained with wire to refine them into beautiful shapes. Although bonsai trees are raised artificially with great care, the most important thing in raising these trees is to make them look natural, not “mam-made”. The major purpose of bonsai is to recreate the beauty of nature in a pot.

*prune... 刈り取る *refine... 優美にする man-made... 人間が作り出した

盆栽は、観賞用として小さな鉢に木を小さく栽培する伝統芸術です。ふつう、松や杉、かえで、梅などを使います。根や枝は継続的に剪定(せんてい)し、大きく育たないようにします。　枝には針金を巻き付けて美しい形に整えます。細心(さいしん)の注意をはらい、人工的に育てるのが盆栽ですが、一番大切なのは自然のままのように見せることで、人が作ったように見えるのはよくありません。盆栽の主たる目的は、小さな鉢植えの中に自然の美を再現することなのです。
